Red Nose Day

We looked brilliant for Red Nose Day 2017!

We enjoyed a silly assembly where each year group tried to make the school council laugh! We got lots of smiley faces for this ‘Oi Dog!’ video:

National Careers Week

This week has been National Careers Week, and what a busy week we have had! We’ve been lucky enough to have had some amazing visitors come in to school and talk to us about their fantastic careers. We have had visits from:

  • Doctor
  • Midwife
  • Actress
  • Nurse
  • Paramedic
  • Estate Agent
  • Waste Manager
  • Chef
  • Plane Engineer
  • Pest Control
  • Opera Singer
  • MP

We are all feeling very inspired and have lots of ideas about what we would like to do as a career when we grow up!

Here are some photos of our visitors:

Future opera singers?!

We have also done some Literacy work about different careers:

Many thanks to everyone who came in visit us this week!

Crzy bt Ks Gry! (Can you read this without the vowels?!)

As part of our World Book Day activities, each year group has been learning about an author this week. Our author of the week is Kes Gray, who has written lots of funny books.

You can find lots of interesting information about Kes Gray by clicking here to visit his website.

On Tuesday we enjoyed ‘Oi Dog’, which is the sequel to ‘Oi Frog’. We wrote in role as the animals from the story…

On Wednesday we read the hilarious ‘Quick Quack Quentin’ and enjoyed a vowel hunt!

Then we took the vowels out of our names which really tickled us!

Then we read information about Kes Gray and answered questions. Did you know that Kes Gray supports Manchester United?

On Friday we enjoyed our favourite Kes Gray book – Nuddy Ned! Here is our very own Miss Coggan reading the cheeky story:

We planned and wrote our own versions of Nuddy Ned! What do you think?

Here are some more Kes Gray stories to enjoy at home:

World Book Day 2017

Wow! What a wonderful World Book Day! We looked AMAZING in our costumes. Thank you to parents for your fantastic efforts.

We enjoyed parading our outfits during a special assembly…

Congratulations to our lucky winners!

We were very brave and stood up in front of the whole class to talk about our favourite books. Well done boys and girls!

Earlier in the week Years 1 and 2 enjoyed a special Reading Morning and were even treated to snacks!

We have enjoyed some bookish maths, such as sorting different types of books onto a Carroll diagram:

We performed some of our favourite Michael Rosen poems, too!

Half term homework

Your child should have brought home a pack of decodable words to read over the half term break. They also have a book-themed homework task in their blue books. We’d like your child to prepare a short presentation on their favourite book. They are welcome to bring the book along with any pictures/notes on Thursday 2nd March (World Book Day). You can read the full homework task by clicking here. We look forward to watching the presentations.

Have a lovely break!

Lexia at home

Your child will be given a letter today about using Lexia Reading Core 5 at home. Here is a copy of the letter. The children use Lexia at school for 4 half hour sessions per week.

It is very important that you do not help your child in any way whilst they are using Lexia. It is designed to be an independent reading intervention and helping your child may result in them accessing activities and school follow-up work that are not best suited to their stage.

Many thanks for your continued support,

Miss Kingsley and Miss Coggan

A visit from the Farm

Today we were lucky enough to visit a farm….in Russell Scott’s car park! A mobile farm brought their animals for us to hold, stroke and look at. We saw 2 sheep with big horns, 4 rabbits, a guinea pig with very floppy hair and 2 alpacas! We asked lots of questions about the animals and even took some animal selfies! The children were all very well behaved and we had a fabulous time.
